Hello Cameron, thanks for being our Dear Boy this issue! How’s it going?
Not bad, I can’t complain! Everything’s well.
We heard that you’re currently shooting for an indie feature, can you tell us more about that?
Yes! I’m super excited about this. The movie is called Runt. It’s a story about a boy who fills the holes, there are many by the way, in his life with a stray dog he’s adopted. His relationship with Runt makes up for the absence of his parents among other things. Eventually he gets caught up in some school drama that could’ve been solved if not for adults turning a blind eye for various reasons. One simply being because they don’t want to deal with it. And as the neglect continues the conflict heightens, and because there’s no adults in charge, decisions on how to deal with problems are misguided. It’s about kids who are forced to grow up without anyone guiding them, and how they can end up in some serious trouble.
It sounds really complex and dark compared to all your previous roles! Did you and that extra challenging?
Yeah, no one has ever seen me do anything like this. Getting myself to dark places on a daily basis was the challenge I’ve been wanting to take on, and every night I’d drive home at 4 in the morning feeling fulfilled. Laughing, crying, silent, it was a roller coaster.
Do you have any other projects in the works that you could tell us about?
I’ll be doing another campaign with the Thirst Project soon, as well as some personal projects I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’ve been involved with the Thirst Project organization for a couple of years now, and have partnered with them on multiple campaigns. They’re a non-profit organization that builds wells in third world countries for communities in need of fresh safe drinking water.
What do you think is one simple thing everyone can do to help out?
I think everyone can learn more about the issue. If you understand the complexities of any issue it gets closer to your heart, and you have more to say to others when the topic comes up. If you have the money, please donate! 25 dollars gives a person clean water for the rest of their life.
Let’s play some quick fires! What pops in your head when I say “Yellow!”?
My mom, it’s her favourite colour. It also makes me think of the 70’s, an era I always thought I belonged in.
Funniest thing you’ve read about yourself on the internet?
That I died…
Who are you currently jamming out to right now?
Tell us one show that you feel represents you as a person.
Assuming you’re asking about something I’ve been in, probably Runt.
Do you prefer portraying a serious role or playful role?
I like to alternate.
What’s your spirit animal?
Tell us 4 things you can’t live without?
Family, basketball, music and Mexican food!
What is your go to scent?
Not sure I have a favourite, but I love when a scent reminds me of someone or a good memory.
One game that you’ve always loved playing?
The Jessie cast used to play hearts whenever we could to get out of school work.
What is one thing that makes you happy?
My people makes me happy!
What is one thing that you wished more people knew about you?
I don’t really think that way. If I really wanted people to know something about me I’d tell them, but I keep a lot of things private for a reason. I like to maintain real life because I don’t have as much as I used to.
What is one thing you’d like to accomplish by 2018?
Projects I haven’t told anyone about. Fun little short films that I’d be directing. Hopefully I can get them done soon.
Last question, have you got a secret talent?
After everything I just spilled to you? No, I think I’m tapped. You got it all!
